Focus Areas for 2025
As we have mentioned before, at Biloela State High school, we are about fostering success and individual pathways for every student. Our end of year data continues to be strong across all year levels and curriculum areas, in the three Core areas of English (93%), Mathematics (85%) and Science (93.5%), with Year 11 classes of General English, Specialist Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Psychology all achieving 100% pass rate.
This year, our AIP(Annual Operational Plan) will not only continue to focus on achieving academic results, but also supporting staff in the areas of learning management and curriculum development (V9 Australian Curriculum and new Senior Syllabi), as well as pedagogies in the classroom that support differentiation.
Extra Curricula and Co-Curricula Policy
Biloela State High School is a place of learning. Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities provide students the opportunity to engage in curriculum, cultural, service and sporting opportunities to complement teaching and learning experiences as part of a whole school program. These opportunities both support and challenge students to reach their full potential within and beyond the school community and have lasting benefits for students beyond their schooling life.
To be eligible to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities:
- Students must have returned the excursion permission form by the due date.
- Students must maintain an average attendance rate of 92% for the prior term. Absences supported by a Medical Certificate taken into account.
- Students must maintain satisfactory behaviour. Students with excess of three Executive Leadership Team (ELT) or Head of Department (HoD) detentions or an extended withdrawal or a suspension from school for the prior term will not be eligible.
- School fees must be up to date.
Process
At the beginning of each term, the Deputy Principals will compile and publish a list of students who are eligible to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. This will last for the duration of the term.
The list of students will be published for all staff and students on Biloela State High School Staff and Student Compass.
All staff who are working with students in co-curricular and extra-curricular areas need to check the master list on Compass to screen participants.
Students are able to meet with the relevant Deputy Principal to discuss why they are not eligible. The Deputy Principal will assist the student to understand the Special Considerations process.
Special Consideration
Students are permitted to make an application for special consideration in writing (via email) to the Principal. This application must be received at least two weeks prior to the activity, where possible. It is expected that this application will only be completed if some atypical or extraordinary event has taken place in the student’s life that had a negative impact on their attendance or behaviour. This application will be considered by the Principal and the decision will be communicated in writing (via email).
It is important to note that our current Year 8-12 students have a good understanding of this process, as it is discussed at least twice a term on whole school parades, as well as year level parades. The policy itself, can be found on the school website. Our Year 7s will be introduced to this policy, this term, as this will affect their inclusion in the policy moving forward.
Social Media
Please ensure your child/children have a completed media consent form. This allows them to be showcased on one of our many media platforms.
School Shorts
We are currently in the process of taking orders for our new school shorts. We currently have two styles available. They will be sold from the school office for $23. Please see Mrs Petersen in the Administration Office for sample sizes.

Deputy Principal Years 7 and 8
The 2025 school year has had a smooth start for our students in Years 7 & 8. We welcome all of our new students and their families and carers to Biloela State High School.
Immunisations
Year 7 students are part of an Immunisation program which has been scheduled for Monday 10th March and Tuesday 11th March. Further information and permission forms will be distributed to Year 7 students. Should you wish for your child to be involve in this program, please return the permission forms as directed.
Co-Curricular and Extra-Curricular Participation Policy
Co-Curricular and extra-curricular activities that provide students with the opportunity to engage in curriculum, cultural, service and sporting opportunities to complement teaching and learning experiences. These activities are outside the daily teaching and learning activities that students engage with.
The policy is designed to re-enforce our school values, ensure that all students are provided with every opportunity to achieve success in their academic students, and to encourage students to find a balance between their academic studies and co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
To be eligible to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities:
- Student must have returned excursion permission forms by the due date
- Students must maintain 92% attendance for the prior term
- Students must maintain satisfactory behaviour
- School fees must be up to date
Students are able to see if they are eligible via Compass. Students who are not eligible are able to see their relevant Deputy Principal to understand why they are not eligible. Students are able to make an application to the Principal for special consideration after they have met with their Deputy Principal.
The full policy is available via our school website and Compass.
We work with our students regularly to support their understanding of this policy.
Assessment Dates
There has been a change in the process for students accessing their assessment dates this year. This is part of our continued rollout of Compass as our key communication platform.
Assessment dates will no longer be available via OneSchool.
Students will be able to see all of their assessment dates on their individual calendar within Compass. Assessment dates for 2025 are currently being finalised. Once finalised, we will work with students to support their understanding of how to access this information.
Year 7 Leadership Program
On Thursday 27th February and Friday 28th February, Year 7 students will be involved in a Leadership Program. Our aims for this program are for students to develop their interpersonal and leadership skills and to develop their connections to Biloela State High School in a supportive environment. Students will be working on site during these two days with a range of staff.
Communications
We welcome your feedback and concerns. Please contact the friendly team at the front office who are able to direct your enquiry to the appropriate person.
Linda Holman
Deputy Principal Years 7 and 8

Deputy Principal Years 9 and 10
Welcome to our parents and students that have entered, or are continuing, their middle phase of learning. This marks the next stage of your child’s education as they leave the foundation of Year 7 and 8 behind and embark onto the road for of Senior Schooling or Career Pathways.
Year 9
Year 9 students continue their core studies of the Australian Curriculum in 2025 and are also engaging in five 6-month electives. Students had the opportunity to pick these electives in 2024 and have also had the first two weeks to speak with me about any possible changes.
This academic year is dedicated to cultivating habits that will facilitate transition to the Senior School in 2026. Our students will make decisions about their Year 10 subjects in Term 3 of this year.
Year 10
As our Year 10 students embark on their journey into the Senior School, they not only receive their distinctive Senior Shirts but also unlock a range of opportunities to pave the way for their decisions in Year 11 and 12.
- Transition days and sessions to support choices for 2026
- Holiday work experience opportunities
- SET plan interview with a Curriculum HOD of Deputy Principal with parents (occurs in August)
- Visits from external presenters (CQU University and TAFE) to help guide student career pathways
- Careers Development Course (CES) lessons to support work preparation skills in Semester 1
Year 10 – Emu Gully Leadership Camp
Students that paid the deposit in 2024 have now received final payment letters.
All students need to return signed forms and pay the final deposit by Monday the 17th of February.
The Year 10 students will be participating in their camp in Week 8 of this term to Emu Gully. Students will attend camp from Tuesday the 18th of March, and return on Friday the 21st of March.
Students not attending camp will attend school as normal for these days.
Assessment Dates and Calendars
Assessment dates for 2025 will be available for Year 9 & 10 students to access on their individual calendar in COMPASS. This is different process to previous school years.
Each student should be able to see the dates for their subjects for the whole year, rather than having to work out which dates apply to them.
It is easier to access this on a computer rather than your phone as you can access week, month or term views.
Year 10 students will be moving to submit assignment based assessment via Turn It In. This helps to support the transition to Year 11 and 12 where assessment is submitted online.
House Cup 2025
Our House Cup Competition is already underway. The house that accumulates the most points for Term 4 of the previous school year (and Terms 1,2 and 3 of the current year) will be crowned the victor.
Burnett earned the house cup breakfast to start this year by earning the most points in Term 4 of 2024.
Students can contribute to the House Cup in a range of ways. These are some, but not all, of the ways they can contribute:
- Achieving the Education’s target of 92% attendance for the Term
- Participating in the weekly Student Voice Survey and competitions
- Participating in school events like clean up crews and the Anzac Day town march
- Participation in athletics, cross country and swimming carnivals
- Recipients of Positive Post-Cards receive house points

David Hall
Deputy Principal Years 9 and 10

Deputy Principal Years 11 and 12
Welcome back for 2025
It is great to see students returning with renewed enthusiasm for their studies and focused on their goals. Year 11 and 12 students have started the year well, with all subject changes finalised by Friday 7th February. Subjects cannot be changed for Year 12 students during the year. Year 11 students will have an opportunity to change subjects at the end of Semester 1.
Change to Assessment schedules for 2025 – I am RESPONSIBLE
Assessment dates for 2025 will be available for Year 11 & 12 students to access on their individual calendar in Compass. This is different to last year. Each student should be able to see the dates for their subjects for the whole year, rather than having to work out which dates apply to them. It is easier to access this on a computer rather than your phone as you can access week, month or term views. Students might like to transfer these dates to their student diary. Parents/Carers can also access this calendar on Compass. They will be visible as Green entries on the date they are due.

If you have any concerns about assessment, please contact either the class teacher or the curriculum HOD.
Extensions or Comparable Exams – I am RESPONSIBLE
Please remember that Year 11 & 12 students do not use Special Provisions forms but need to apply for AARA through me. Students are eligible for Access Arrangement and Reasonable Adjustments for existing or long term conditions or for illness and misadventure.
Any other reason must fit into the following criteria:
- the event is unforeseen and beyond the student’s control (e.g. death of a family member)
- it is not of the student’s own choosing or that of their parents/carers (e.g. not a family holiday)
- it has an adverse effect on the student’s ability to attend or participate in assessment.
Students are not eligible on the following grounds:
- unfamiliarity with the English language
- teacher absence or other teacher-related difficulties
- matters that the student could have avoided, e.g. misreading an examination timetable, misreading instructions in examinations
- timetable clashes
- matters of the student’s or parents'/carers' own choosing, e.g. family holidays or sporting events (excluding school sport)
If you have any concerns about your child’s assessment, please do not hesitate to contact me via email troac3@eq.edu.au
Senior student agreements – year 12 – I am MY BEST
All year 12 students have now received a letter along with their senior student agreement. This documentation aims to make clear the school expectations for students and their families. Where students do not meet these expectations, we will work with them to support them to get back on track. Students may lose the privileges extended to our senior students when these expectations continue to be breached.
Please ensure that these agreements have been signed and returned and you have discussed the expectations with your child.
We have also spent time in Week 1 registering for the QCAA Student Portal so students can see their subject results and estimated QCE points throughout the year. This is how students will access their results and QCE at the end of the year.
Senior student agreements – year 11 – I am MY BEST
Year 11 students will receive their letter and senior student agreement over the next few weeks. This details the school expectations for students and their families. Students may lose the privileges extended to our senior students when these expectations are breached.
Please ensure that these agreements are signed and returned and you have discussed the expectations with your child.
Year 12 results from 2024 – I am MY BEST
We held our Recognition parade on Monday 3rd February, celebrating the achievements of the graduating class of 2024. It is always a pleasure to see our previous students and acknowledge their success.
100% of students received their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) or their Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA). 97% of students completed year 12 with one or more Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications.
ATAR are calculated by the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre. When students register through QTAC, they are asked to give consent to share their final ATAR with their school. This consent is optional, however this information is very useful for us to review and reflect on our teaching and student learning. From the results that we were able to see, the students should be very proud of their efforts with the majority of students gaining entry into their desired university pathway.
Notable mentions must go to:
Lauren Howard achieved an ATAR of 91.75 and is working locally before deciding on her pathway.
Anthea Vasiliadis received an ATAR of 95.35 and is has been accepted into a Bachelor of Paramedic Science at Queensland University of Technology.
Anthea was announced as our Senior Dux and was presented with this honour by Scott Haynes from Batchfire Resources who sponsor this award.
Katelyn Marks received an ATAR of 90.00 and has been accepted into a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) at Queensland University of Technology.
Congratulations to all of our students who are successfully on a path towards their individual goals; a testament to our school vision: Fostering success and individual pathways for every student.

Student Resource Scheme
The Student Resource Scheme (SRS) is a user-charging scheme operated by schools to provide parents access to individual student resources not funded by the government. Schools develop their SRS based on specific resources needed by their students and the programs they offer. Participation in the SRS is optional. Parents who opt out of the SRS are responsible for supplying the necessary resources for their child.
The scheme operates within the policy and guidelines of the Department of Education, and is provided as an entire package and not available in parts.
The scheme may be split into two components:
- a whole of school component which is common to all students depending on their year level; and
- specific goods and services consumed by your child which are related to individual subjects undertaken by your child.
The scheme ensures that students have the required resources for their education, while saving parents/carers time and money in sourcing these items individually.
Biloela State High School Textbook and Resource Scheme Fees for 2025 are:
Year 7 – 10 $100.00
Year 11 – 12 $50.00
Fees include electronic license provision and facilitates students to be able to access their textbooks online.
As well, User Pays fees are charged for subjects where the instruction is extended through providing practical learning experiences in excess of materials provided by our school grants. These participation fees exist in the senior school for years 10, 11 and 12.
Further details and all the relevant paperwork are available from the school office. Invoices will be sent out in the coming weeks with fees due by the end of Week 8 (21st March 2025) unless a payment plan has been negotiated with the school prior to the fee due date.

Marketing
Biloela State High School has hit the ground running in 2025. The whole school body was serenaded at parade in Week One, as the majority of Year 12 students donned the Cupid uniform (AKA bedsheets, some ripped directly from their beds!) and entered to Tay Tay’s ‘Love Story’.
Our little cupids have since been busy spreading the love, selling roses, cards and tickets, to go int the draw to win a giant valentine teddy. On Valentines Day students will deliver roses and sing to lucky people.
